This short-term crisis stabilization program is an alternative to inpatient hospitalization for those who are going through a mental health crisis and need 24/7 care.
Instead of being in a cold hospital environment, clients can stabilize in our comfortable San Diego and San Juan Capistrano homes with intensive medical support including immediate psychiatric care, medication management, 24-hour monitoring, and crisis intervention.

Everything someone could need in order to quickly stabilize during a time of acute mental health crisis is included in treatment. Clients receive room and board, medication management, 24/7 nursing, treatment planning services, and any medical care they might need.
Clients usually stay in this crisis stabilization unit for 7-21 days. After that, they typically transition to a residential program or partial hospitalization to continue care
For anyone going through a mental health crisis, like psychosis or suicidal ideation, this program provides a safe alternative to hospitalization where clients can stabilize and move forward in a comfortable and supportive clinical setting.
In addition to 24/7 psychiatric nursing, medication management, and therapy, Alter clients have many options for activities while they are staying at one of our crisis centers.
Art therapy, yoga, breathwork, mindfulness, and sound baths are all available activities for clients to participate in, and a personal trainer comes two times a week to help with physical activity.
Clients have a highly structured day, complete with therapy and alternative healing, along with all of the essentials they need to stabilize.

We prioritize family involvement, making it a priority to contact the family daily with updates on their loved one’s progress. This is fairly unique among treatment centers, and we take it a step further by providing education to family members about their loved one’s diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan.
