Our goal is to support you in your journey with skills that encourage recovery behaviors. Mindfulness coaching is a great option for calming the chaos as a part of your journey toward wellness in mind, body, and spirit.
Simple mindfulness training practices can include mindful breathing, mindful walking, meditation, mindful eating, and the incorporation of mindfulness into other daily activities. As you practice mindfulness, you learn how to actively draw your attention away from stressors, panic, and cravings and refocus to relax, reset, and calm your mind.
Develop an intuitive ability to recognize and respond when your system needs recalibration. When you recognize your needs, you’re better equipped to take action and stay on a healthy and productive path.
For addiction, trauma, and general mental health and well-being, mindfulness is a type of accessible and functional meditation and awareness that you can practice anywhere.
Working on mindfulness training in a safe, therapeutic environment better prepares you to use your tools during times of crisis or heightened emotions.
If you’ve been stuck in fight or flight, you know how suffocating it can feel. Your heartbeat pounds in your ears, your throat gets dry, and it’s suddenly too hard to breathe. Mindfulness gives you the ability to break free from heightened arousal and channel your energy.
Mindfulness can simply be noticing what you are feeling in your body. Are your hands tingling? Does your chest feel hot? Is your breathing quickened? Mindful body scans can help you come down from a heightened moment of stress, anxiety, or craving by connecting you back to your body. Mindfully identifying the sensations in your body can help bring your mind back to reality and calm the overwhelm.
When the nervous system is impacted by emotional trauma, it can get stuck for days, weeks, months, or years at a time. As we work through the waves of trauma, mindfulness training can help us identify the physical sensations associated with the emotions that arise.
If you’ve experienced trauma, it can be incredibly overwhelming and even painful to open yourself up and revisit those feelings. Treatment requires vulnerability, trust, and safety. At Alter, you’ll find a therapeutic environment with clinicians who care.
One of the beginner-friendly techniques we use in mindfulness training is to identify each of your five senses. Take a moment, take a deep breath, and slowly shift your awareness to each of your five senses, one at a time. What do you hear? What do you smell? Can you see anything? Do you taste anything? What do you feel in your body? If it doesn’t feel safe to explore that question, focus on what you can physically feel.
Our clinicians will work with you to ensure that you feel safe as you practice shifting your awareness. We’re here to support you every step of the way as you deepen your recovery skills and begin to process triggering experiences.
