Alter offers the full continuum of mental health care, from residential treatment to outpatient care, so our clients can gradually and successfully transition back to their day to day lives.
Inpatient residential treatment uses a full continuum of care to guide you or your loved one successfully through every stage of mental health and addiction recovery. Inpatient residential treatment is the highest level of care available, and is often the first treatment program patients join before transitioning to a lower level of care. All patients receive a complete diagnostic assessment before starting treatment to help doctors, therapists, and counselors develop customized treatment programs.
When a patient is struggling with dual diagnosis, or both a substance abuse problem and mental health disorder, treatment usually begins with medical detox. Detox helps you overcome physical dependence on drugs and alcohol and manages the physical symptoms of withdrawal. Following detox, the patient can begin receiving behavioral therapy in individual and group settings, and engage in therapeutic activities designed to inspire and motivate you to achieve long-term recovery.
The duration of inpatient residential treatment programs vary, depending on your recovery progress. Patients can live at our facility for as long as needed until they are physically and mentally ready to re-enter their communities as healthier individuals. Our goal is to help you adjust to a healthier lifestyle and learn invaluable life skills to navigate difficult situations you may face in your day to day life.
Alter offers a variety of quality evidence-based services proven to help patients from all walks of life successfully recover from mental health disorders and drug and alcohol addiction. Many of our services are behavioral therapies aimed at helping patients change harmful behaviors and attitudes. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), 12-step support group therapy, and contingency management interventions are some of the many science-based treatments available through our inpatient residential program.
CBT helps patients identify and correct problematic behaviors that commonly lead to substance abuse, such as poor stress management. With CBT, patients learn how to effectively manage stress, cope with cravings, and avoid high-risk situations that increase the risk of relapse. Research on the effects of CBT in a residential treatment setting indicates that many patients continue practicing the skills they learn in therapy following the completion of their treatment programs.
Recreational therapies at or residential treatment facilities are fun, complementary therapies to traditional services like CBT that can significantly enhance your recovery experience. Art and music therapy, exercise, yoga, and mindfulness meditation are some of many recreational therapies proven to boost confidence along with physical and psychological health. Recreational therapies also serve as gateways to new hobbies and interests that you can adopt and continue practicing after completing your treatment program.
